Room with a view of the Italian Coast. Stay at the location where “Under the Tuscan Sun” was filmed in Positano. Albergo California is right in the heart of Positano on the Amalfi Coast. A Rick Steves favorite with easy access to everything, the hotel dates back to 1777 and was founded by and still owned by the Cinque family descendants. The owner, Maria will connect you with anything you need—she is related to just about everyone in town. Every room has coastal views, modernized with A/C, mini fridge, TV, hair dryer, and includes daily maid service. Each room is furnished with two single beds and a private bath. The hotel has a charming terrace with a panoramic view of the village. We’ll spend a lot of time on this terrace enjoying breakfast, group critiques, and art instruction. The hotel is within 5 to 10 minutes walk to restuarants, internet café’s the beach and fabulous shops. An artists delight, the ultimate of a lifetime. Additional nights can be arranged at our hotel if you’d like to arrive early or stay on a few extra days, just let us know. If our hotel is filled by the time you sign up we have alternative options available nearby. |

What is a typical day like? An Italian Breakfast awaits you each morning with a smile from Maria, our Host. After breakfast we will either paint in Positano on our large balcony with spectacular views and large tables to spread out on. We may venture around Positano or take a ferry to an exciting destination where we will have a lesson and paint on location with daily demonstrations. You are free to paint along with us or find your own spot and paint on your own. Our most recent copy of “Make Every Day a Painting” makes a handy reference during our workshops, and will be provided on the first day of the workshop. Group critiques (no worries) will be scheduled around our adventures. One night we’ll take everyone out for a group dinner, while on other nights you can join your new friends or grab something simple from the Deli down the street. We will visit nearby beaches, take the ferry to Amalfi and Capri and have private transportation to Ravello where you can stay late and enjoy a performance at the Ravello Music Festival (Maria can order tickets for you at the cost of about 25 Euros. Yes, you will have plenty of time to paint, explore and shop. One day midweek will be open so you can take a cooking class, enjoy a private excursion to Sorrento or Pompeii, explore Positano or just relax at the beach. Of course, you are always free to follow your heart and do your own thing on any day. |

Who goes on our tours? Anyone who wants to see beautiful destinations as an artist. We have beginners to experts, even non-painters (non-artist rate available) who take advantage of the time to explore and have their own adventures. We’ve also had many students bring family and friends or just come alone and make new friends. Many of our students are repeat guests. We’ve researched and visited our locations so we can help you make the most of each day. While we are teaching primarily watercolor, with collage and journaling added. You are welcome to work with any medium you choose, Theresa and Cindy are also both proficient in pastels, acrylics and oils.
How do I get to Positano, Italy? October is the off season for airline tickets so if you book early you can enjoy reduced rates. We’ve seen rates as low as $1250 from Seattle to Naples. Book airline tickets with your travel agent to Naples. We also suggest you compare prices on www.kayak.com or www.expedia.com. We can help you arrange your airport transfer from the Naples airport or train station with Fabio, our favorite driver. He provides excellent service in super clean vehicles. We recommend you stay away from the city of Naples, it is a dangerous city. Do not risk taking a taxi from the airport. It is best to travel directly to Positano with one of Fabio’s drivers. You can choose to take a side tour to Pompeii or Sorrento in route to or from Positano, he can even arrange a guide. We recommend that you do not rent a car and try to drive the Amalfi Coast—it is perilous. If you have an early return flight, Fabio can pick you up very very early in Positano...no worries. If you are interested in a transfer from Rome let us know and we’ll get an estimate for you. Rates can depend on the number of people in your transfer. Note, transfers are not included in the workshop fee, thus the reduced rate for this tour. We have found that once you arrive in Italy you will want to continue to Positano with minimal delays.
Art Supply & Packing List. You are welcome to bring whatever professional quality watercolors you have. Simplify as much as possible, you only need a few brushes, watercolors and watercolor paper in whatever form you prefer (in a journal or separate sheets), along with a water container. Feel free to also work in other mediums. An easel is not necessary, you can even skip bringing a stool and find a bench to sit on while visiting towns. The simpler you pack the more you’ll paint. We will send a detailed list of our preferred supplies upon signup. We also provide a suggested packing list, down to when to apply for your passport, what to carry on the plane, what to pack in your check in bag(s) and how to simplify. We encourage you to pack as little as possible so you can fit treasures in your suitcase on the trip home.
Travel Insurance is recommended in case of illness, injury, family emergencies, trip cancellation, etc (last year I had a guest who had a bicycle accident just prior to the trip and had to cancel, she was able to get full reimbursement for canceled trip—including airline tickets.) If you purchase within 15 days of paying your initial deposit from www.travelguard.com you can possibly obtain trip cancellation in case you have to cancel for personal or business reasons.
Thinking about it? Just give us a call or email us, we’ll be happy to answer any questions. In 2008 our trip sold out in 30 days so don’t delay. Cindy Briggs 541-420-9463 Theresa Goesling 425-802-3487 makeeverydayapainting@yahoo.com |
